Fakebook- by Cassie

I created a Reading/Writing lesson using fakebook, because I am not teaching this year I created a "fakebook" profile for one of the lower level reading books I used last year in my Reading and Decoding class. The series of books is titled "The Bit N Files" series, and the specific book I used for this lesson is titled "E. Phil The Clown".  I created a fakebook profile for one of the main characters in the book- Bobby Buckwalters. Bobby was a bully, and often picked on a student in Chemistry class (Aaron). To summarize the story in short Bobby ends up becoming good friends with Aaron through a series of events that happends in Bump City (the town Aaron and Bobby live in). They end up solving many unexplainable events in town together at the end of the book.  The link to Bobby's fakebook profile page is http://www.classtools.net/fb/97/5NhBjN. I think that this website would be a great tool to use in an English class as students are able to create fake profiles as the characters within the story, they then are able to comment on other characters posts.  Fakebook also allows for characters to create a timeline of events.  Often times when I taught Sophomore English students would not be able to successfully complete CAPT question #3- How does the character change throughout the course of the story? I think that if students go on to their characters fakebook page and comment/post to their timelines, they then would be able to reflect on how "they"(the character) has  changed, and would be able to give specific examples/citations explaining why/how they have changed. Overall I think that this is a great way to incorporate 21st century skills, as it allows for students to collaborate with one another and think critically about how the main character has changed throughout the course of the story.  They also would be able to view how other characters have changed, and why.  Most students love posting on facebook, I believe that this website would be a great tool to use that would capture students' interest and would be educational-directly linking to the common core standard CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.1 -students will be able to "Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text".
