Tool Used: I used LiveBinders to set up my digital portfolio. I went with LiveBinders because I was basically looking for a place to organize various websites which are valuable to my teaching. I often find myself searching the web and coming across great sites and usually saying, 'I'll come back to that later', and then often forgetting about it or not finding the site. LiveBinders allows me to categorize the sites into topics and I also found the site very user friendly which encourages me to place useful sites into my binder.
Platform: LiveBinders is a great application which supports 21st Century learning. This platform is not only valuable for the sorting of my sites but it is also designed in a clear system which can be shared with colleagues or even my own students. The site is very user friendly which encourages me to use the binder often and I normally struggle with organization so the format of the binder is great. I can definitely see the value in the binder in order to share sites and materials with colleagues in an organized way. In the busy day of a teacher there are many times when I forget to share a promised assignment or site and I think the binder can be a solution to that. By giving colleagues access to my binder I will not have to be worried if I forgot to email on of the World History teachers and I think this is an ideal way to share resources.
Content: Currently the content of my binder consists of Digital Citizenship materials, 21st Century Skills materials, and teaching resources. In my Digital Resources tab I have included websites which were helpful to the project completed in this course. Since the concept of Digital Citizenship was new to me at the beginning of this course this tab is only a beginning for resources. I now have a place to house Digital Citizenship materials and organize the materials in a way that they can be shared with others. My 21st Century Skills tab includes sites which were valuable to my project for this class. The sites also have direct application into my current curriculum and this tab serves as a place to house future sites which will aid with the incorporation of skills into the curriculum. Much of the information currently in my binder is centered around useful sites for teaching history. These sites are valuable to both teacher and student and are some of the most used sites for my current World History curriculum.
Reflection: LiveBinders seems to be the perfect fit for housing and sorting my websites. The binder will make it very practical to share sites and assignments with colleagues and students. LiveBinders will help me to increase communication and collaboration with my students. This site definitely benefits 21st Century Skills and provides a great way for educators to 'guide' students through information sharing. I look forward to using LiveBinders and I think it will be a time saver and provide piece of mind when it comes to organization. I feel this application meets the needs of 21st Century students and educators alike.
