Reading response:
I’ve been taking my time reading through Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts….I
knew I was going to be really interested in this book and I was correct. Richardson takes some time to talk in
depth about RSS, which I did not know much about. Basically RSS is a way to subscribe to different media
outlets we already use (such as newspapers, blogs, etc) but it puts all their
feeds in one place. I decided to
create one of my own and see what this was all about. Richardson explains how he thinks this is one thing we all
need to do right away and that it will prove to be great. He also discusses how
at the beginning it seems like an overload of information but in the long run
we will be able to weed out what is good and not good to make it better and
give us each more personalized information that we find valuable. I’m in those beginning stages so all
the information seems pretty over whelming for me.
He recommends Google reader and since I already use Google I
decided that I might as well start here.
It is pretty user friendly and I set it up quickly. I began to search some of my favorite
information sources such as NPR and the Courant. Long story short- NPR sends out a LOT of information. I have both the NPR app and Hartford
Courant app, which I check pretty frequently (although my husband still insists
on reading the paper we get sent to us). I don’t quite see the benefits of it yet other than it
all being in one place, although only time will tell. Also, I don’t yet know all the good education blogs to help
me in this way yet, I think these would be a great thing to add to my feed and
make it more valuable for me.
